Hope everyone made it a point to get out and vote today. I heard some pretty bad stories about long lines, but I was lucky, when I went, there were no lines at all! In and out, even took my two little ones, they loved their “I Voted” stickers.
It seems as if this election has dominated every aspect of our lives, from the news, to talk shows…EVEN MY KIDS VOTED…at school. (Obama won in a landslide…not sure what that means….)
Anyway, I have gotten so much junk mail sent to my ”inbox” that I usually hit delete before reading (not from good friends though). Just recently my friend sent me an e-mail that I am sure many of you have already read, but I hadn’t.
The e-mail said, and I am paraphrasing, no copy and paste here, that we need to diligently check the expiration dates on dry ingredients containing yeast…pancake mixes. Apparently as the yeast ages, it grows spores and when ingested these spores can cause serious allergic reaction.
I looked it up on Snopes.com (love that site by the way) and even called my pediatrician. He said that it is possible and can have varying degrees of reaction, from mild “hay fever” type symptoms, to hives, and in some cases anaphylactic shock. He said that he has never had this happen, only that it is possible depending on your child’s (and your) allergy tolerance for mold. Again, he has never had this happen, but i don’t think I would want my child to be the first.
The easiest way to prevent this, check the expiration date….and remember, “When in doubt, throw it out!”
