Have noticed that your linens seem to be falling out of your linen closet and there is less space then you remember there being?  If so, let’s start to sort and organize your closet.

It’s easy to accumulate a large collection mismatched sheets and towels with holes in them.  Like everything else in our home we tend to use what is right in front of us.

Take everything out of your linen closet and sort into categories.  Put all of your bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, master sheets, twin sheets girl/boy, guest sheets and so on into separate piles.   Determine which are worth keeping and which should go to charity, your cleaning rags, or you sheet for the kids to use for a tent or under the table while playing with play dough.

I keep two sets of master bedroom sheets, three sets per child and two sets for guest sheets.  As for bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths I keep six each per bathroom with shower or a tub.  This gives you one set to use, one in the hamper, and one in the linen closet.

I realize it is hard to picture not having all the other 20 towels you usually keep in the linen closet but think about it, have you used them recently? Or have you used the towels you just washed and put in front of them?  We really do use what is in front of us most of the time.  Obviously if you have a pool you will want to keep extra bath towels for your swimming guests but not too many. Hopefully your guests will bring their beach towel from home..

Now let’s put everything back into the closet.  Since everything is already sorted into categories and piles of your keepers; start with the bedding for each room, then towels for each bathroom.  I like to sort by room, some like to sort by size or by style.  It is completely up to you, do whatever makes sense to you and your family.  When you go to the linen closet to put away the sheets or towels, always place the freshly washed linens under the stack and take from the top to replace the towels, this will help keep them stay equally worn.

On Monday let’s talk about the JBF sale coming up and let’s find a way for you to make a little extra money.
